Practices: Sundays prior to games; TBA but probably Mondays at 6:30pm and Wednesday at 630.The U15 girls are invited to stick around after their Monday night practices and may also attend Thursday practices at 6:30 with the senior women. The senior women practice Monday and Thursday nights 6:30-8:00 at Lord Beaverbrook High School. This allows U15 girls the opportunity to practice at a higher level and to develop relationships with the Hornets senior women (whom they will eventually be old enough to play with!). The U15 girls will not participate in any contact drills with the senior women, nor will they play any games with them, it is simply another skill development opportunity for the girls.
Games: Sundays usually at the Calgary Rugby Union
League Information: U15 girls play a 'Festival' style league on Sundays, meaning that all U15 girls from across Calgary will come and be assigned to different teams each week. The U15 league is still at the development level. Many of the other Calgary clubs do not have enough girls to form their own U15 teams, therefore girls are assigned to teams each Sunday where they will first practice and then play games against the other teams that have formed. This helps the girls get to know each other and play with different players each week in a game situation. No one can play for a rugby club while they are playing for their high school senior rugby team. Therefore if you make your senior rugby team at school you can practice with the Hornets but you can not play any games until your high school team is eliminated from playoffs. If you make your high school junior rugby team, or if your school does not have a rugby team, you can play and practice with the Hornets.
Equipment: Mouth guards must be worn for all games and practices. Soccer cleats or rugby cleats must be worn (no single front stud). A playing jersey will be provided. For health reasons, bring your own water bottle. Black rugby shorts and Hornets socks should be worn for all games.
